Hyaluronic Acid

Why You Need Hyaluronic Acid in Your Life! (All You Need to Know)

What is Hyaluronic Acid? We hear about this ingredient often when we talk about skincare but really what is it? First off, don’t let the word “acid” scare you. Yes, the word seems daunting, but have no fear - Hyaluronic Acid isn’t harsh or skin-stripping AT ALL. In fact, it’s the exact opposite – it's a powerful humectant (aka moisture-binding ingredient) that keeps skin plump and hydrated and, yes, youthful.

Let's get into the science stuff:

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide (carbohydrate) in the human body. As we know from Nutrition 101: a carbohydrate is essentially sugar. It takes up a lot of space between skin cells, where it provides moisture, plumpness, firmness and suppleness to the skin.

What is a humectant?

Humectants are found in skincare products to hydrate the skin by attracting water like a magnet and locking in moisture. Because our friend Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant, think of it as a sponge that retains moisture within our skin keeping it hydrated. We all know hydration is key to plumper, firmer and glowing skin.
